Lee Roy Selmon's existence is a combination of football scholarship, family work and community involvement. In the first place Selmon was raised by Lucious Semon and his wife Jessie on a farm near Eufala in Oklahoma as the youngest of the nine children they had. Second football he was one of three brothers who were players for Oklahoma. All three made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey was one of the starters for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's most effective lineman. He was awarded two championships as well as 31-1-1 during his three years as the Oklahoma's starting linebacker. Third scholarship he was named as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received his bachelor's master's degree in educational studies. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer time per week throughout the college. After college, he moved into Tampa and played nine years with the Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro 3 times. He then began his professional career. In 1988, he was an Account Relation Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He also worked with the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. He was no surprise that the year 1982 was when The Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy among the top ten outstanding young people throughout the United States. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 pounds in the time he played football at college. In 1975, he was on the team. squad. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993, as assistant director of sports. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 presented their Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma presented the award.
