Lee Roy Selmon's history combines the virtues of family football scholarship and community service. One of the first things he did is to help his family. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children on a Eufala farm. In second football, he was one of three brothers who were players for Oklahoma. Three brothers were All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the top lineman from the US. During his three-year tenure as the starting quarterback for Oklahoma, the Sooners went 32-1-1 and captured two national titles. In his role as a National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon received the opportunity to receive a scholarship in his third year in the year 1975. Selmon holds a bachelor's degree in education. Fourth year of the university Lee Roy devoted ten hours each week on volunteer work. Following college, he relocated in Tampa and played for nine years with Tampa's Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro three times. He then began his career. By 1988 he had become an Account Relations Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one of Ten of America's top young men. As a student, Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 pounds. He captained his college team in 1975. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993, as assistant director of sports. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave its Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor that presented the award.
