Lee Roy Selmon blends the benefits of a football scholarship within his family with the benefits of community service. First family, he's the youngest of the nine children of Lucious Selmon and Jessie raised on a family farm near Eufala, Oklahoma. The Selmons were also among the three siblings who represented Oklahoma in football. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey was a starter for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy was named the top offensive lineman in United States by Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. Over the course of three seasons, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy being the starting player. The team also took home the national title twice. In 1975, he was awarded his third scholarship and was named a National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon earned his diploma in education. Lee Roy's fourth service consisted of ten hours a week of volunteer time in the college. He settled down in Tampa following college. He was a member of the Buccaneers for nine seasons and made three times all-pro. His career in business began. The year 1988 was the first time he worked as an Account Relation Officer at First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him one of the nation's most outstanding young men. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and stood at a height of 6-2. When he was playing college, he commanded the team of 1975. In 1993, he was a part of the University of South Florida as associate director of athletics. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. He was also named to the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 gave the Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor who made this presentation.
