Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines the football scholarship of his family and service in the local community. The first time the Selmons were brought up with Lucious Semon and his wife Jessie, on the farm close to Eufala located in Oklahoma as one of their nine children. A second reason was he is the youngest of three brothers to play with Oklahoma. All three of them were All-Americans. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the starters for one year. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. During his three-year tenure as the Oklahoma's quarterback of choice, the Sooners went 32-1-1 and won two national titles. In 1975, Selmon was awarded the third scholarship of his career and was recognized as a National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon was awarded a degree from Education. Lee Roy spent ten hours per week volunteering in his college days. After graduation Lee Roy moved to Tampa and spent the next 9 years with the Buccaneers. 3 times he was selected All-Pro. Then he began his business career. In 1988, he was working as an Account Relations Officer in the First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. The Junior Chamber of Commerce honored his name in 1982, as one of the top 10 young men from the United States. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265lbs in the time he played football at college. The year 1975 was the first time he led the team. In 1993, he became the as associate director at the University of South Florida. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993 by The GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 as well as by The Pro Football Hall of Fame of 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded the Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Jr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma presented the award.
