Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football and volunteer work in the community. First family, he's the youngest of nine children of Lucious and Jessie Semon who grew up on a family farm near Eufala, Oklahoma. He played second in football and was the third brother who played for Oklahoma. They were all All-Americans. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the first-teamers for a single season. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the leading lineman of the nation. During his three seasons as Oklahoma's starter, the Sooners went three-and-a-half and won two championships. On his third scholarship, he was named as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received a degree in Education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer times a week in college. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers over nine years and was an all-pro. Also, he began a career in the field of business. The year 1988 was the first time he began working as an Account Relation Manager for First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed by the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and for the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There's no doubt that he was named one of the 10 most notable young men of the nation by the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1982. When he was a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighs 256 pounds. He was a captain on his college team in 1975. He was named associate director of Athletics at the University of South Florida, in 1993. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded the Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. The award was presented by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
