He is currently signed to the Combate Americas promotion. 2 Ortiz is best known for his involvement with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in which he was an ex-UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, having held the title since April 14th, 2000, until September 26 2003. He was the first to enter the sport alongside Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture. Ortiz ultimately became the biggest pay-per-view star of 2006 due to his bouts with Liddell, Forrest Griffin, and Ken Shamrock.Ortiz is the president of Punishment Athletics' MMA equipment and clothing line, which is based in his home town of Huntington Beach, California.
